October Is American Cheese Month, So Grab Some Gourmet Cheese in Williamsport, PA!

Who doesn’t love cheese? Well, for all of you cheese connoisseurs out there, October is American Cheese Month, a month described by the American Cheese Society as being a “grassroots celebration of North America’s delicious and diverse cheeses,” not to mention everyone who plays a role in creating the cheese and bringing it to you the consumer. The purpose of American Cheese Month is threefold:

• To raise awareness of and give special recognition to the diversity and quality of cheeses in the United States
• To promote and support local family farms, cheese makers and local foods in general, particularly those that use traditional and sustainable production methods
• To raise awareness and financial support for the American Cheese Education Foundation

There are American Cheese Month events all over the United States, led by anyone who has a love for great cheese (and again we ask, who doesn’t?). You can find events listed on the American Cheese Society’s website, www.cheesesociety.org.

However, you don’t have to be an official supporter of the American Cheese Society to celebrate American Cheese Month. If you’re eating and enjoying cheese during the month of October, consider yourself a supporter of dairy farmers and cheese producers.
